Since Ian Fleming’s sixth James Bond book, DR NO was filmed by legendary producers Albert R. ‘Cubby’ Broccoli and Harry Saltzman in 1962, James Bond on screen has become an internationally recognised figure. The trademarks of the series, from the gadgets to the music to the immortal line ‘Bond… James Bond’, have been present since this first film and, we hope will continue long into the future.
The James Bond films, now produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, make up the longest running franchise in film history and 5th October 2012, Global James Bond Day, saw the 50th anniversary of the first Bond film, DR NO. To celebrate the anniversary year, Bond in Motion at the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu was opened at the beginning of 2012 exhibiting 50 original vehicles from the James Bond films. The Barbican Centre in London hosted a unique exhibition, Designing 007 – 50 Years Of Bond. It showcased half a century of iconic props and costumes from the films and has gone on to tour internationally. Also in celebration of the anniversary, the documentary Everything or Nothing: the Untold Story of 007 was released in selected UK cinemas. On the 5th October itself, EON Productions and Christie’s presented 50 Years of James Bond – The Auction to benefit twelve selected charities, the final total raised from the live and online auction was £1,641,350/ $2,644,442.
