Steel Dagger award
During the War, Ian Fleming told a friend that he was going to ‘write the spy story to end all spy stories.’ Fleming is now recognised as one of the best thriller writers of the 20th century and his legacy for creating James Bond adventures full of pace and intrigue lives on. When asked how to write a thriller Fleming was clear on how to achieve success,
‘There is only one recipe for a bestseller and it is a very simple one: you simply have to turn the page.’
Every year Ian Fleming Publications Ltd sponsors a literary prize for the best thriller published in the UK, the Crime Writers’ Association Ian Fleming Steel Dagger Award. Past winners include Gillian Flynn, Robert Harris and Karin Slaughter. The judging panel consists of five independent judges who are passionate about thrillers and is chaired by Ian Fleming Publications Ltd.
